Charles Bryan Poland's Personal Website

This website contains information about me, and the organizations to which I belong, and a few to which I have belonged in the past.

It also contains a summary of the main lines of my family genealogy, back to the point of the first ancestor  in that line to immigrate to the American colonies.

The earliest of my ancestors to arrive in America was Captain Thomas Harris, who reached Jamestowne, Virginia in May, 1611.  This is more than nine years before the Pilgrims' landing at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts.

The picture to the right shows me wearing a kilt in the tartan of Clan MacFarlane, one of several of my Scottish ancestral connections. They are considered Scots-Irish (or Scotch-Irish), because the family emigrated first from Scotland to Ireland, and then from Ireland to America. I'm also a member of of the American Clan Gregor Society, because this family line was originally called MacGregor, changing the name to MacFarlane about 400 years ago, when the King outlawed the name MacGregor and all the Clan lands were taken away. Another of my Scottish ancestral lines is Kendrick, a sept of Clan Menzies.

You may notice that I'm a member of the Appalachian Shawnee Tribe. That's because my ancestry includes several Native American tribes, particulary Shawnee, Cherokee, and Chicasaw. You won't see much of this in my main genealogy lines, but it is quite real and well documented.

You will also see that my ancestors have served in every war in which the United States has fought, from World War II back to before the American Revolution, in the French and Indian Wars, when we were still English colonies.

If you wish to contact me, the site has a contact page with a form which will send me an email.
